"O God
Thank you for the sight
Of the eternal hills
The unresting sea
And for something beautiful
That the hand of man
Has made."

(Miller family prayer before each meal)

Currently I live in northern California, am a mother, grandmother, teacher, businesswoman, artist, musician, poet, explorer/traveler and lover of life. My creative spirit and motivation came from my family, in particular my mother, father and sister - all exceptional people who have left this world, and have deeply influenced my life.

From the early years through adulthood, my mother filled our environment with experiences that encouraged appreciation for natural beauty, cultural patterns and the process of creativity. There were always wonderful projects in which we were immersed that enabled us to be aware of design, color, pattern and the form/function of the created object. Whether weaving a handloomed tapestry from home-dyed yarn, knitting a sweater, making original clothing, painting, cooking unique and  creative meals, sculpting, playing the piano or listening to great music, our family was constantly creating. Appreciation for design and it's origin, whether in the natural world or from the hand of man/woman, was always reinforced.

My father was a voracious learner who helped pioneer one of the great learning companies in it's golden years from the 1940's through 1960's. Believing in knowledge as a key panacea for many of the world's problems, he focused his business acumen through this company all the while using his great curiosity to read, travel and experiment with new ideas. He had a great sense of humor, whimsy, and was a great storyteller. Although he passed away just prior to the onset of the computer generation, I know he would be fascinated with how the computer and the internet are redefining the world and human experience, and would want to be apart of this entrepreneurial adventure of his oldest daughter.

My sister became a talented weaver and writer, constantly exploring the interaction of art and culture, relishing the process of discovery and learning throughout her life. Although no longer with us in this world, her spirit is strong and alive in my heart as I develop my ventures, dedicated to her.

My grown children and grandchild are the joy of my life and have become explorers in their own right, each on his/her own adventure. Both grown children are artists and accomplished people helping to make the world a better place, carrying on the Miller family tradition of creative observation and practice.

My mother, father and sister encouraged me to be a life-long learner, to continue to develop myself throughout the fullness of my life. My children encourage me, as I do them, in the adventure of life and the continuation of learning. I dedicated this adventure, CHANNING DESIGN, to those who are dearest to me, from whom I have grown and blossomed, and to whom I have given my life. I share my love for them in the creative expression of myself.
